Joe Clee and Jessica Mendoza claim 1st and 3rd in Gent CSI2* Grand Prix

Saturday 28 February 2015

It was great to see Joe Clee and Ludwig Criel’s bay stallion Utamaro d’Ecaussines starting off their 2015 GP season in such style this afternoon when they secured 1st place in the CSI2* Grand Prix in Gent, Belgium.

With a field of more than sixty competitors coming forward the course was a strong one with only a dozen of the competitors jumping clear in the first round and being eligible for the jump off.   It was Joe and Utamaro though that proved unbeatable by jumping an incredibly fast clear to stop the clock in a time of 35.25seconds.

Also joining Joe in the jump off under the GB banner was 18 year-old World Class funded rider Jessica Mendoza who has gone from strength to strength on the senior circuit during the winter season.  Riding the 9 year-old bay gelding Sam de Bacon, they finished in 3rd place jumping clear in a time of 35.74 seconds.

With less than a second dividing the top four places it was an incredibly hard fought class and it was Harrie Jr Wiering with World Wide that took 2nd place and Emanuele gaudiano with caspar 232 that took 2nd and 4th place respectively.
