Jessica Mendoza finishes 3rd in the CSI 3* Arezzo Grand Prix

Monday 31 March 2014

17 year-old Jessica Mendoza from Chippenham, Wiltshire with her mother Sarah’s 13 year-old brown mare Spirit T finished 3rd  yesterday (30th March) in the CSI 3* 1.50m Grand Prix in Arezzo, Italy.

From a field of fifty-seven competitors, thirteen went through to the jump off. With seven competitors carrying through a single time fault to the second round, it was anyone’s class to win.  The top three placing’s went to those who jumped clear but once again it was made clearly evident that the time was extremely tight as each of them again incurred time faults.

It was Italy’s Guilia Martinenjo Marquet with FD Funke vt Heike who took the title by stopping the clock in 57.99 seconds with a total of 1 time penalty from each round. Second went to Russian rider  Alexandr Belekhov with Viceroy; finishing in 54 seconds with their time penalty in each of the two rounds.   Jessica, who opted to take it steadier and opt for a foot-perfect clear, achieved exactly that by coming through the finish line with all fences remaining untouched in a time of 56.21 seconds.  Accruing 2 time penalties alongside her single one from the first round saw her finish on a total of 3 penalties and into 3rd place.
