INTERNATIONAL (CSI 2*-5*) WEEKEND ROUND-UP

Monday 15 October 2012

With the start of the World Cup series taking place in addition to a number of international shows British riders were out in force and flying the Union Flag successfully this weekend.

The Oslo Horse Show, Norway played host to the first of the 2012/13 World Cup Qualifiers which saw Scott Brash with Lady Pauline Harris and Lady Pauline Kirkham’s Hello Sanctos take 5th place following an unlucky 4faults in the jump off. Just behind him and hot on his tail was Will Funnell with the Billy Stud owned and bred Billy Congo who came through the finish just fractionally slower.

Scott Brash with Elizabeth McTaggart’s in-form Bon Ami II took 1st place in a 1.50m class with more than fifty starters in, a great result having just taken 2nd place in the HOYS Leading Showjumper class the previous weekend. Robert Smith with Balourado took 2nd place in the opening international class of the show in addition to placings in two other classes.

St Lo, France saw either Guy Williams, Simon Crippen, Jemma Kirk or Dan Neilson in the line-up at the CSI 3* event each day. Guy Williams with Nigel Scudamore’s Larino 87 took the opening speed class before taking the title of the 1.45m jump off class the next day with his own Titus II.

France also placed host to a show in Dunkerque which saw 18 year-old Chloe Aston with her own Kolibri Classic take 2nd place in the Grand Prix having produced just one of the three double clears produced throughout the competition.

Assen in the Netherlands also saw a British rider in the line-up of the Grand Prix with Tim Stockdale and Colin Garrett’s Fresh Direct Kalico Bay taking 3rd place in the Grand Prix. With only four riders producing a double clear and all of them coming through the finish in less than a second between them the competition it was a particularly hard fought jump off.

Rabat, Morocco is where Team GBR Leading Lady rider Laura Renwick was competing. A solid performance on the first day saw her take 1st place with stalwart Limelight de Breve with whom she also went on to take 2nd place the next day. Two classes later Laura was back in podium position with her husband’s (John) Beluga II in a 1.45m class with whom she was also placed the next day.
