Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds Get Underway at Wales and West

This year’s Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds got underway on Monday 25th May at the Wales and West Show which is held at The David Broome Event Centre in Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

Each of the fifty-seven starters were hoping to claim one of the two direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show.

With the production of a treble clear very much at the forefront of every competitor’s mind, spectators were treated to an exciting class. Of the fifty-seven starters, eleven combinations produced the double clear needed for a place in the final jump off. Just three combinations were able to produce the sought after third clear, but with only two spots available for the Championship Final, all eyes were on the clock.

Christie Pritchard, aged 18, from Holyhead, Gwynedd delivered the fastest treble clear of the class on Wendy Hawcroft’s 10 year-old dark bay gelding Bolton Gate Ben. Having shown good pace in the first two rounds of the class, the combination were quick once again across this final jump off track and they gained their treble clear in a time of 41.22 seconds. This time was to eventually give them a 2.64 second advantage over their nearest rivals.

Second place was taken by 42 year-old Philip Spivey from Ipswich, Suffolk with Gregory Forrest’s 7 year-old bay mare Darya-I-Nur. They produced their treble clear in 43.86 seconds and this secured them their place in the Championship Final

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final, the combinations in third to fifth took home the chance to compete at The British Showjumping National Championships.
