Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre

The Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds continued with the seventh fixture, which took place this at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre in Fareham, Hampshire on Monday 16th July 2012. The class was attended by 42 talented and eligible starting horse and rider combinations.

All combinations started the second round with the aim of obtaining their qualifying place for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final, which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) on Thursday 4th October 2012.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). From the total number of starters and after two closely fought rounds of competition, 10 combinations achieved the double clear required to get them through into the final jump off. In the final jump off, three of these combinations then went on to achieve the treble clear required to put them in with a chance of qualifying for the Championship Final.

The overall winner of this second round was 17-year-old Abigail Newbery from Southampton, Hampshire. Abigail won the class on board Alan James’ ten-year-old bay gelding, Obligado. The combination produced their immaculate third clear in a fantastic time of 38.11 seconds to clinch the class win and the first HOYS direct qualifying place.

Second place and the second HOYS direct qualifying place went to 21-year-old Matthew Sampson from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Matthew produced his treble clear on In Showjumpers’ seven-year-old chestnut mare, Brianda. The combination went clear over the jump off course in a time of 46.81 seconds.

Missing out on the Horse of the Year Show qualifications were the combinations in third through to sixth. All of these combinations produced the treble clear required to secure their opportunity to compete at the Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
