Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round at Arena UK

The ninth Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round took place yesterday at Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire and it was another class that proved popular with competitors, with forty-nine coming forward.

Also up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and each competitor were aiming to take one of these tickets home.

After two well fought rounds of competition, ten combinations achieved the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off. In that jump off, five combinations then went on to secure a treble clear, which resulted in the clock becoming crucial in deciding the order of results.

The fastest treble clear came from  20 year-old Charlene Bastone from Chelmsford, Essex and she was on board Newbridges Master Brown, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Stacey Webb. This combination was third from last to go in the jump off and they secured their treble clear in a time of 32.76 seconds to secure the victory.

In second place was Sally Hopkinson (20) from Womersley, North Yorkshire partnering Arcadia III, an 9 year-old bay mare owned by David Hopkinson Ltd after stopping the clock in a time of 34.30 seconds to ensure that they secured that second qualifying spot.

The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
