Helen Tredwell & Jess Mendoza fly the flag in Aachen

Sunday 01 May 2016

The CSI 2* at Aachen saw Jess Mendoza, Helen Tredwell and Dominic Webb putting in some great performances throughout the four days of competition which culminated this afternoon.

Helen Tredwell picked up a win in the opening Speed Class on Friday with Balouetta.  Their clear in a time of 60.68 seconds was a full two seconds faster than Diana Bulles for Germany with Baloue’s Flying Sister 2 who finished in 2nd place.

Dominic Webb and Alvatore came 3rd in the 1.40m later the same day behind Christof Kauert for Germany and Marc Boes for Belgium who came 1st and 2nd place respectively.  The final class of the day, a 1.40m,  saw Helen back in the line-up again; this time in 6th place with Sebastian VII owned by Colin Garratt.

Saturday’s 1.45m brought a 3rd place finish for Jess Mendoza with her mother Sarah’s ride Spirit T with whom she assisted GB secure their Rio 2016 qualifying ticket at last year’s European Championships.  Their clear in a time of 65.93 seconds just wasn’t fast enough to catch leader Frederick Knorren for Germany with Aspen 11 and Japan’s Hikari Yoshizawa with Clicksem.   The following class, a 1.45m jump-off class saw Helen Tredwell take 9th place with Balouetta behind Kenny Darragh for Ireland who won the class.

Today, Sunday 1st May, Helen Tredwell made another appearance in the presentations when she took 3rd place again with Balouetta, owned by Philip Tuckwell, in the 135m class.  Whilst Jess Mendoza took 5th in the 6 & 7 year-old 135m-1.40m handicap with Jonker van Sombeke, a 7 year-gelding owned by Sarah and T&I Nv.

Jess narrowly missed out on winning the Grand Prix with Spirit T when they stopped the clock at 38.18 seconds which was just a fraction of a second slower than Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and Rock’n Roll Semilly’s time of 37.58 seconds.  Jens Baackmann for Germany and Carmen 255 took 3rd place with their time of 39.17 seconds.
