Hannah Barker & Fraser Reed celebrate successes in the Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifiers at Bury Farm Equestrian Village

The final Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Qualifiers took place over the weekend at Bury Farm Equestrian Village in Buckinghamshire and it was Hannah Barker and Fraser Reed who collected a win apiece.
All was to play for as a starting field of forty-three hopefuls began the tense battle to claim one of the final qualification spots on offer for the prestigious Charles Britton Equestrian Construction Winter JA Classic Championship, which will be held during the British Masters International Horse Show, at SouthView Equestrian Centre (30th June - 2rd July 2017).

Twelve year-old Hannah Barker from Thornton Le Beans, North Yorkshire grabbed a fabulous win on board Lynn Barker’s 13 year-old dark bay gelding, Ammanvalley Santino. As one of only eight combinations to produce a clear in the first round, stakes were high when they jumped again and just two were able produce a further clear round to go through to the jump off. The pair were unlucky to have a pole down in the jump off for 4 faults in 55.51 seconds, but they proved to have enough for the top spot.
Second place went to Molly Davies, aged 15, from Broadway, Worcestershire riding Cuffesgrange For Sure, a 17 year-old grey gelding owned by Melanie Davies. This partnership produced two clear rounds to make it through to the jump off. They crossed the finish line with 8 faults in 43.67 seconds.
Third place went to 14 year-old Courtney Young from Basildon, Essex and she rode Marie Clark’s 17 year-old bay mare, Fostymana VH Trichelhof. Following a first round clear, this pair collected 4 faults in the following round in 40.62 seconds.

Seasoned Winter JA Classic competitor Fraser Reed, aged 15, made the journey from St. Andrews, Fife worthwhile once again when he rode Barrie Truelove’s 16 year-old bay mare Quilitymaes Z straight in to first place. Against a strong field, this pair used their final draw to full advantage, becoming one of five to jump through to the second round. They produced another clear for a spot in the jump off before going on to secure the only treble clear of the class in 44.51 seconds.
Taking second place was 13 year-old Oliver Fletcher from Faringdon, Oxfordshire riding The Bobster, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by his father, Graham Fletcher. This pair posted a quick time of 43.40 seconds and finished with 4 faults.
Fourteen year-old Faye Sutton from Whitchurch, Shropshire was another quick challenger on board Robe Ruadh, a 13 year-old dun gelding owned by Jacqueline Sutton. This combination crossed the finish line with 4 faults in 43.68 seconds and took a top three placing.
