Graham Babes claims the final Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round Win at Bishop Burton College

For the final time this season combinations gathered to compete in a Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round which this time was held at Bishop Burton College in Beverley, East Yorkshire. Graham Babes claimed top spot with an unbeatable treble clear performance.

Thirty-nine starters were all in the running to secure one of the two qualification places on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show. A competitive class saw poles fall to leave seven determined competitors to go forward to the final jump off.

Making the journey from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire worthwhile, Graham Babes jumped straight to the top of the leader board with his 6 year-old bay gelding, Glencoe. This combination delivered two strong rounds before picking up the pace over the newly shortened jump off course to deliver the winning round in a time of 33.86 seconds.

Taking full advantage of a late draw, Simon Buckley from Kendal, Cumbria scooped second place riding Katie I, an 8 year-old chestnut mare owned by Johanna Buckley. This partnership crossed the finish line with a treble clear in 34.72 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
