Georgia Taylor-Jones Takes Her Place in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final

The Welsh Home Pony held at the Wales and West Showground at The David Broome Event Centre, Chepstow, Monmouthshire was the setting for the penultimate Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round on Saturday 25th July.

With just three tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show on offer in the second round, all of the fifty-four starters were hoping to produce three clear rounds as this would put them in strong overall position.

In an eight horse jump off, only two treble clears were achieved and the fastest of these came from 14 year-old Georgia Taylor–Jones from Porthcawl, Mid Glamorgan with her mother Joanne’s 10 year-old piebald gelding Mac Spirit. Georgia and Mac Spirit set the standard early on the jump off after producing their immaculate treble clear in just 43.33 seconds. This result was to prove them to be clear winners as they took victory by nearly four seconds.

The only other treble clear was delivered by 14 year-old Jodie Giles from Calne, Wiltshire and Julie Pratt’s 7 year-old skewbald mare Whos Bits n Pieces. They crossed the finish line with all fences still standing in 47.00 seconds and in doing so, took second in the final line up.

The third and final qualification spot went to Allana Clutterbuck, aged 14, from Upminster, Essex on Susan Evans’ 9 year-old bay gelding Sultan Du Barry. First to go in the jump off, this combination was unfortunate to pick up 4 faults at the midway point, but their time of 43.76 seconds was good enough to see them beat all of the other four faulters.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having already been secured, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
