GB TAKE TOP TWO PLACES IN THE MILLSTREET €50,000 GRAND PRIX

Monday 13 August 2012

Clevedon based Anna Edwards, secured a superb win for Great Britain in the €50,000 Millstreet Grand Prix, Ireland yesterday with the 9 year-old bay gelding Diaghilev owned by Terry Payne.  Hot on her heels and in second place was Essex based Dan Neilson with Stacy Willsone’s 10 year-old liver chestnut gelding.

A strong field saw ten competitors go clear in the first round, two of them being Anna and Dan for Great Britain, in addition to riders from both Italy and Ireland. All hoping for the lion share of the prize money, competition was fierce with riders knowing that they had to not only jump clear but also incredibly fast if they were to be in the running.

With only five of the combinations contesting the jump off  managing to produce a double clear, it was Anna that took the podium position having come through the finish in a time of 40.73 seconds. Just behind her, on a time of 41.21 was Dan Neilson, with only one combination managing to beat their times but not without incurring faults.

British wins and placings in other classes were plentiful with Guy Williams, William Whitaker, Will Funnell and Joe Clayton also producing superb results.
