Excel Talent Programme opens its doors for 2017

The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) England Excel Talent Programme is now seeking applications for the forthcoming Programme cycle for its 2017 squads.

Now an established and successful progression route for equestrian talent, the Programme exists to identify, support and develop athletes who show the potential to move up the pathway by providing a performance foundation for athletes to progress to the Equestrian World Class Podium Potential Programme. Athletes on Excel have access to top level coaching, as well as leading sport psychologists, sports scientists and veterinary support.

Someone who knows all about the work of the Excel Talent Programme is dressage rider Phoebe Peters, a current member of the Programme, who has already achieved fantastic success on the international stage in her own right after being crowned Pony European champion in 2013 and 2015; “I have been training with two horses over the duration who have both benefitted massively from world class coaching, veterinary, biomechanics and shoeing advice. As a rider myself I’ve managed to build myself further as an athlete by taking on what I have learnt from the nutritionists, physiotherapists, sports psychologists, and strength and conditioning coaches who have advised us throughout the process.”

Providing support to equestrian Olympic and Paralympic disciplines, across dressage, eventing, para-dressage and jumping, the Excel Programme will this year see a more focused approach with a reduction in the number of athletes accepted onto the Programme as the BEF looks to provide a more tailored approach. This has resulted in a rising of the performance standards required within the selection criteria, and interested applicants are urged to view the selection documentation now on the BEF website.

Applications for 2017-2019 open on Tuesday 1 August 2017 and will be accepted until Thursday 31 August 2017.
