EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Weston Lawns Equitation Show

The sixth of the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Rounds took place this weekend (Saturday 23rd June 2012) at Weston Lawns Equitation Show in Warwickshire and the competition proved popular, with over 100 horse and rider combinations entering the class.

The EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round was a key part of the Summer Spectacular Show hosted by Weston Lawns and the class attracted entries from 141 horse and rider combinations.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final and from the total number of 138 starters, 15 combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off and of those 15, eight combinations went on to achieve that vital treble clear needed to put them in with a chance of qualifying for the Championship Final.

The winner of this second round was 19-year-old Megan James from Chelmsford, Essex and she won the class on board her own six-year-old bay gelding, Borsato. The combination produced an immaculate treble clear in a time of only 36.58 seconds to clinch the win and claim the first HOYS direct qualifying place.

Second place and the second HOYS direct qualifying place went to 27-year-old Mark Bunting from Atherstone, Warwickshire. Mark rode Georgia Wells’ seven-year-old bay gelding, Kannan Star, clear over the jump off course in a time of 38.81 seconds. This time ensured that Mark booked his place in the Championship Final.

Missing out on the Horse of the Year Show qualifications were the combinations in third to eighth, but all of these combinations secured their opportunity to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012) as they all produced the spotless treble required.
