EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre

The EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Rounds continued last weekend at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre, near Fareham, Hampshire. This series of second rounds has proved to be popular all season and eighty-four combinations came forward for this particular one which was held on Sunday 27th July 2014.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and each competitor was hoping to take one of these tickets as their own.

Eight of the starters produced the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off and in that jump off, just one combination went on to deliver a treble clear.

Victory in this second round was taken by 26 year-old Nicole Pavitt from Crawley, West Sussex on Tia Semilly, an 7 year-old bay mare owned by Old Lodge. The combination was the penultimate one to go in the final jump off and Nicole knew that she would need a clear foot perfect round to take the win. The combination’s treble clear, was done in 49.638 seconds.

Nicole commented “We were lucky with our order in the jump off, as we had seen that no-one had produced a clear ahead of us so we knew we had a chance. Tia Semilly is quite experienced and has a competitive side to her. I am really pleased with her performance.”

Second place was taken by 20 year-old Graham Gillespie from Alexandria, Dunbartonshire and he was on board Casino Royale VII, an 7 year-old bay mare jointly owned by Melissa Cadden and Beth Gillespie. Graham picked up four faults in the jump off but stopped the clock in 45.37 seconds to take the second qualifying spot.

The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
