Elizabeth Mantel Takes the First Showjumping win at HOYS 2015 in the British Showjumping Bronze League Championship

Reading rider Elizabeth Mantel was left feeling "pretty ecstatic" after she won the opening showjumping class at the 2015 Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

The Berkshire-based competitor delivered a sparkling performance on the 11-year-old mare Caoimhes Delight owned by Stephen Mantel to land the British Showjumping Bronze League Championship.

The class sees riders from all over the country trying to qualify for one of world showjumping's most prestigious events, and Mantel, who works full-time at Berkshire College of Agriculture, powered to victory.

A jump-off time of 30.77 seconds set too quick a pace for anyone else to match, with Julia Helm and Eros 2000 finishing as runner-up, almost four seconds behind. They were the only two riders to post double clears.

"I am pretty ecstatic. I can't believe this has just happened," said Mantel. "I am really pleased that this class has been brought in at Horse of the Year Show, because it gives people the chance to try to qualify and compete here.

"I set off at the start of the year and I was aiming for this class. We are really going to enjoy the rest of the day now, then it is back to work on Thursday."
