Drew Walton & Jodie Hall Mcateer Win Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifiers at Addington Manor Equestrian Centre

Thursday 04 February 2016

Addington Manor Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire held a Winter 148cm Pony Premier Show last weekend and the two Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifiers were once again an important part of the show.

Forty-five combinations started out across the two days of competition and each rider was focused on securing a sought after qualification spot for the prestigious Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Championship, which will be held during the Charles Stanley British Masters International Horse Show (1st - 3rd July 2016).

Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Saturday 30th January 2016

Following two stiff rounds of competition, just three combinations made it through to the final jump off and it was 15 year-old Drew Walton from Preston, Lancashire who proved victorious.

Drew took the top spot on her mother Kerri’s 14 year-old grey mare Tequila Twist after the pair delivered the fastest 4 fault round of the jump off. Drew and Tequila Twist picked up 4 faults around the midway point of the jump off, but their turn of pace ensured that they secured the win as they came through the finish in 45.07 seconds.

Alexander Mclean, aged 13, from Lasswade, Midlothian finished in second place on board Red Flamenco, a 14 year-old liver chestnut mare owned by Marjory Mcnaughton. Alexander and Red Flamenco were unfortunate to roll a pole at the final fence for 4 faults, but this result in 53.80 seconds was to be good enough for a place in the top two.

Third place was taken by 16 year-old Allana Clutterbuck from Upminster, Essex and she rode Susan Evans’ 10 year-old bay gelding Sultan Du Bary. This combination picked up 8 faults at the last two fences of the jump off, but set a quick time of 42.94 seconds.

Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier Results – Saturday 30th January 2016:
1st Drew Walton & Tequila Twist – 0/0/4 – 45.07 seconds
2nd Alexander Mclean & Red Flamenco – 0/0/4 – 53.80 seconds
3rd Allana Clutterbuck & Sultan Du Bary – 0/0/8 – 42.94 seconds

NB: Qualifications will be updated pending official grading of results.

Charles Stanley Winter JA Classic Qualifier – Sunday 31st January 2016

Last year’s Winter JA Classic Champions, Jodie Hall Mcateer and Tixylix got their title defence campaign off to a solid start on Sunday with a win in the qualifier.

Fifteen year-old Jodie from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire guided the 18 year-old chestnut mare Tixylix owned by Sarah Mendoza round the final jump off with precision and pace to finish with a treble clear in 37.19 seconds, a result which saw them lead the jump off from the very start.

The only other treble clear of Sunday’s class came from 14 year-old Jack Whitaker from Whatton, Nottinghamshire. Jack delivered three clear rounds with his father Michael’s 10 year-old chestnut mare Zodianne Van De Doevenbree and clocked up the last of them in 37.53 seconds.

Jodie Hall Mcateer cemented a successful afternoon by also talking third place on The Little Squire, a 10 year-old grey gelding owned by her mother Mandy Hall. Jodie and The Little Squire were unlucky to pick up 4 faults, but they also secured a fast time of 37.82 seconds.
