Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Stainsby Grange Equestrian Centre

An active weekend at Stainsby Grange Equestrian Centre in Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland play host to three of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds over the heights of 0.90cm, 1.10m and 1.15m. The Second Rounds were held on Sunday 30th September 2012 and all of the horse and rider combinations flocked to the second rounds with the aim of qualifying for the Championships. 
 
Following an initial season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships. 
 
Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round. 
Twenty  combinations started in the 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round, all of whom were beginning their Championship qualification campaign. From these starting combinations, 15 made it through to the jump off and with only 12 qualifying places available, riders needed to achieve fast and clear round.
 
The overall winner of the class was 25-year-old Sian Jewell from Whitby, North Yorkshire and she won the class on board her own ride, Abbervail Bouncer, an 11-year-old roan mare. Sian rode a double clear on Abbervail Bouncer and the combination produced a fast time of 30.87 seconds to secure the win and a place in the Championship Final.
 
In second place after the two rounds was 15-year-old Holly Gair from County Durham. Holly came second on Bowes Milky Way, a 15-year-old grey mare owned by Stephen Gair. The combination achieved their double clear in a time of 31.33 seconds to secure their place. 
 
The combination in third was 21-year-old Laura Whitfield from Haltwhistle, Northumberland on board Irish Platinum Pleasure, a 15-year old grey mare owned by Kathleen Whitfield. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 33.75 seconds. 
 
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final following the production of a double clear.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round. 
The 1.10m National Amateur Second Round attracted 17 starting combinations and a total of six combinations achieved the first round clear required to get through to the jump off. In the jump off, three riders went on to achieve that crucial double clear and the places came down to the times. 
 
In this second round, the winner’s place was filled by 21-year-old Zoe Wilson from Wetherby, West Yorkshire. Zoe achieved her win and qualification on board Winner III, a nine-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Andrew Wilson. The combination posted a time of 32.25 seconds, ensuring that the top spot was theirs.
 
The combination in second place was Sara Blakey from Wingate, County Durham and her own Ferndale Summer Breeze, a 16-year-old grey mare. Sara had a successful ride on her horse and she rode her second clear in a time of 35.04 seconds.
 
Third place was taken by 18-year-old Lowri Ball from Cleveland and she rode her own 12-year-old bay mare, Esmeralda 72. The combination produced their double clear in a time of 36.42 seconds after riding an accurate jump off round. 
 
Three more riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final due to the production of a clear in the first round.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round. 
This 1.15m National Amateur Second Round attracted eight starting combinations and from these starters, three combinations made it through to the jump off and also the Championship Final. 
 
The overall winner was 17-year-old Jessica McNally from County Durham. Jessica rode her own Bowes Corland Cracker, a nine-year-old grey mare. The combination produced a double clear, with the second clear ridden in a time of 30.77 seconds to ensure that the win was hers.
 
In second place and securing yet another Championship Final qualification was 18-year-old Lowri Ball from Cleveland, this time on board Bonanza III, a 10-year-old bay gelding. Lowri’s double clear was produced in 33.82 seconds. 
 
In third was 23-year-old Emma Boynton from Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and she secured her Championship Final place on board Mr Nice Guy II, her own 11-year-old chestnut gelding. The combination finished on eight faults in a time of 41.60 seconds.
