Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Pyecombe Show

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds continued last weekend (Saturday 15th September 2012) at Pyecombe Show, West Sussex. Brendon Stud in Pyecombe played host to two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, namely the first of 0.90cm National Amateur Second Rounds and the third of the 1.00m National Amateur Second rounds. 
 
Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships. 
 
Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round. 
The 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round saw 34 starting combinations begin their qualifying campaign and from these combinations, 24 made it through to the jump off. In the jump off, 13 riders achieved an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places. 
 
The overall winner was 21-year-old Helena Gurdin from Dorking, Surrey. Helena rode a superb double clear to secure the win and a Championship Final place on board her own 17-year-old bay gelding, Hillowan Bumble Bee. Helena rode two accurate rounds to get her double clear and she achieved the second clear in a time of 30.28 seconds to seal the win.
 
The combination is second place were beaten by only 0.01 of a second and it was 25-year-old Jack Moore from Horsham, West Sussex who secured second. Jack rode Pristina Van Het Rubenshof, a 13-year-old bay mare owned by Shelley Anthony. Jack rode his second clear in a time of 30.29 seconds to ensure he finished in second place. 
 
The combination that finished in third was 17-year-old Lucy Hart from Alton, Hampshire and she secured her Championship Final place on her own 18-year old grey gelding, Okehurst Just Jacko. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 32.15 seconds. 
 
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round. 
The 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted 33 starting combinations and 13 of these combinations achieved the first round clear required to get through to the jump off. In the jump off, eight riders went on to achieve that crucial double clear, which again meant that the times decided the places. 
 
In this second round, the top two from the 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round filled the top two places again, this time reversing the order. Securing the win in this second round was 25-year-old Jack Moore from Horsham, West Sussex on board Pristina Van Het Rubenshof, a 13-year-old bay mare owned by Shelley Anthony. The combination posted a time of 34.24 seconds to ensure that they won the class by nearly three seconds.
 
Second place was secured by 21-year-old Helena Gurdin from Dorking, Surrey. Helena rode her second double clear of the day on board her own 17-year-old bay gelding, Hillowan Bumble Bee. Helena rode her second clear in this second round in a time of 37.16 seconds.
 
Third place was taken by 43-year-old Abigail Groves from Leatherhead, Surrey and she rode her own 11-year old chestnut gelding, Taal, clear over the jump off course. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 39.46 seconds. 
 
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final. A further five combinations produced a double clear and the remaining four qualified due to the production of a clear in the first round of the class.
