Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Port Royal Equestrian Centre

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds continued on Sunday 16th September 2012 at Port Royal Equestrian Centre in York. Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.
Port Royal Equestrian Centre hosted two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds and these consisted of a 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and a 1.15m National Amateur Second Round. The starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.
Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round.
There were 50 starting combinations in the 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and from these combinations, 25 horses and riders made it through to the jump off. In the jump off, 7 riders achieved an immaculate double clear to book their place in the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final, and the remaining qualifying places came down to the fastest four fault times.
The overall winner was 21-year-old Zoe Wilson from Wetherby, West Yorkshire. Zoe’s win came on board Andrew Wilson’s nine-year-old chestnut gelding, Winner III. Zoe rode Winner III to his second clear in a time of 34.17 seconds to secure the win and her place in the Championship Final.
Second place was taken by 23-year-old Emma Boynton from Northallerton, North Yorkshire. Emma rode her own 11-year-old chestnut gelding, Mr Nice Guy II and the combination achieved their second clear in a time of 35.50 seconds to ensure that they finished in second place.
Third place was filled by 27-year-old Craig Dillon from Alfreton, Derbyshire and he secured his Championship Final place on board Unbelievable U UK, a five-year-old bay mare owned by Barbara Dillon. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 35.65 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round.
The 1.15m National Amateur Second Round attracted 19 starting combinations and six of these got through to the jump off. In the jump off, two riders achieved a double clear, which again meant that the times decided the places.
Securing first place was 29-year-old Lauren Hollingworth from Ashby-Cum-Fenby, North east Lincolnshire. Lauren secured her win on board her own nine-year-old dark bay gelding, Jolie Boy and the combination posted a time of 41.78 seconds to secure the win and a place in the Championship Final.
Second place was secured by 36-year-old Drew Birtwistle from Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Drew rode his nine-year-old bay gelding, Paddy VI. The combination completed the jump off course clear in a time of 45.06 seconds to ensure that they finished in second place.
Third place was taken by 43-year-old Julia Hardy from Chesterfield, Derbyshire and Julia rode her own 13-year old bay gelding, Hey Boy. The combination had produced an immaculate jump off round, up until the final fence, when a pole rolled and left them with a four fault final score. However, their time of 38.89 seconds did ensure that they secured third place.
A further three riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final due to the production of a clear in the first round of the class.
