Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round at Longwood Equestrian Centre

Longwood Equestrian Centre in Basildon, Essex was the host venue for a 1.00m Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round. The class attracted 30 starting combinations for the competition held on Sunday 21st October 2012. Following months of competition in the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur First Rounds, riders were competing in order to qualify for the Championship Final.
All of the starting combinations were hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.
In this Second Round, an impressive 19 combinations made it through to the jump off and in the jump off, nine combinations achieved a double clear and the times decided the places.
Taking the top spot was 22-year-old Marteen Sapsford from Basildon, Essex. Marteen rode Reflex Diamond Clover, a 15-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Ian Lewington and the combination achieved a superb clear over the eight jump off fences. A time of 34.11 seconds was enough to seal the win and a place in the Championship Final.
Second place was taken by 17-year-old Jade Wood from Essex and she achieved her place in the Championship Final on board her own eight-year-old piebald gelding, Westford Lenny. A faultless round in the jump off in a time of 35.79 seconds was enough to ensure a top two finish.
In third place was taken 35-year-old Deborah Scott-Garrett from Romford, Essex and she rode Dancing Queen X, a 15-year-old black mare owned by Ann Ackland. This combination posted an immaculate clear in the jump off in a time of 37.30 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m Championship Final.

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur & Veteran Championships 2012 take place from the 15th November – 18th November 2012 at Aintree International Equestrian Centre.
