Dodson & Horrell 1.05m and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at Bury Farm Equestrian Club

Bury Farm Equestrian Club in Slapton, Buckinghamshire held a 1.05m and 1.10m Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round over the weekend and both second rounds were held on Sunday 14th September 2014. Each of the competitors were aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer in each second round for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014. 

Dodson & Horrell 1.05cm National Amateur Second Round. 
A total of twenty-five combinations started out in this second round, with sixteen going on to produce a first round clear to enable them to go through into the jump off. Seven combinations then secured a double clear.

Tagatha Payne, 18, from Welwyn, Hertfordshire took the win in convincing style on board her own 9 year-old dark bay mare, The Maharanee. They produced an extremely quick jump off round to take victory with a double clear in 36.43 seconds and this left them with nearly nine seconds in hand over the second placed combination.

Second place was taken by 41 year-old Gemma Sayers from Hook, Hampshire on her own 8 year-old grey gelding Kingdom Cruise. Gemma and Kingdom Cruise produced their double clear in a time of 45.12 seconds. 

Third was secured by 45 year-old Abigail Groves from Leatherhead, Surrey on her own 13 year-old chestnut gelding Taal. This combination’s double clear was delivered in 46.50 seconds.

An additional nine riders also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Championship Final.

12th Henrietta Collier & Patricia Star – 0/4 – 59.65 seconds

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round. 
Twelve competitors came forward for this second round and the jump off was contested by seven of these combinations. Just two double clears were produced in total.

Building on her performance in the 1.05m second round performance was 41 year-old Gemma Sayers from Hook, Hampshire on her own 8 year-old grey gelding Kingdom Cruise. The combination took victory in this 1.10m second round after producing a quick but careful jump off round in 49.32 seconds. 

Franch Bourny, 39, from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire filled second place with Sharina 26, a 12 year-old dark brown mare owned by Valentina Cisnetto. This combination secured a double clear stopping the clock in 56.66 seconds. 

Capping a successful was 18 year-old Tagatha Payne from Welwyn, Hertfordshire who took third place on board her own 9 year-old dark bay mare The Maharanee. Picking up 4 faults in the jump off but crossing the finish line in 41.16 ensured a top three finish for this combination. 

Another four riders also went on to take a qualification place for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final.
