Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Round at Badgworth Arena

The first of the 2014 Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Second Rounds was held at Badgworth Arena in Ayrbridge, Somerset on Saturday 6th September 2014 and thirty-one starters came forward to contest it.

Each starter was aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 19th – 23rd November 2014.

Twenty-two combinations produced the first round clear required to make it through into the jump off and ten combinations went on to produce a double clear. This meant that fast four fault rounds were also to be taken into consideration for the allocation of the qualification places.

The win in this second round was taken by 54 year-old Pierre Baber from Kingswood, Bristol on his own 11 year-old bay gelding Chaparral. The combination produced the fastest double clear of the class to cross the finish line in just 33.12 seconds.

Second place went to 16 year-old Gaby Struel from Cardiff, South Glamorgan and she rode her own 14 year-old grey mare Hole In One II. They also produced two foot perfect rounds to gain their double clear in 33.48 seconds.

Julie Milkins, 44, from Winscombe, Somerset took third place on Madison Jack, a 17 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Steven Urch. Their double clear in 34.20 seconds ensured the combination of a top three placing alongside a spot in the Championship Final.

A further nine further riders also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.85cm National Amateur Championship Final.
