Dan Neilson wins CSI 2* Grand Prix in Spain
Sunday 12 November 2017
The Brits once again dominated in Spain earlier today, this time taking the top five places in the Gold Tour Grand Prix at the Autumn Mediterranean Equestrian Tour (MET) in Oliva.
It was Dan Neilson from Essex that headed the line-up having posted an incredibly fast jump-off clear in a time of 47.03 seconds to take the lead on his partner Stacy Willsone’s 9 year-old gelding Major Delacour.
The strong field of almost fifty starters had been whittled down at the end of the first round to see fourteen come forward for the jump off who had posted first round clears. With six of them going on to produce a second clear it was Dan’s fast-paced round that secured him the lead with Lance Whitehouse on the 14 year-old bay gelding Vik II that took 2nd having stopped the clock just under half a second slower in a time of 47.31 seconds.
Amy Inglis took 3rd in a time of 47.38 seconds with her mother Claire’s homebred 9 year-old chestnut mare Wishes on whom she won Team Gold and Individual Bronze at the Young Rider European Championships earlier this year. It was a 4th place finish for Richard Barton with Donata a 10 year-old grey mare and 5th place for Jess DImmock with the 12 year-old bay gelding Chandon Blue.
Talking after the presentation Dan said of his horse ‘He’s big striding and the course had lots of long runs so it suited him. He is only nine years-old and getting better all the time; I think a lot him”.
