Coco Bongo and Dan Neilson win Grand Prix in Lummen

Monday 06 May 2013

Dan Neilson won the CSI2* Grand Prix in Lummen (today 6th May) with Declan McEvoy’s 8 year old bay stallion Coco Bongo.

In a class that saw sixty seven competitors come forward, Dan put in a foot perfect performance to produce the fastest of the six clears achieved in the jump off.  It was Irelands Shane Breen who was hot on his heels with Golden Hawk, but stopping the clock at 41.80seconds just wasn’t fast enough to secure first place.  It was Dan’s time just a fraction of a second faster of 41.14seconds that secured the podium finish relegating Ireland, Belgium and Slovenia into 2nd, 3rd and 4th place respectively.

Dan Neilson from Essex was the only Brit to appear in the top ten of the competition.  Only just out of Young Riders, aged 22,  this was a great achievement made even  more notable due to the fact that he was riding one of the youngest horses in the competition.

Talking after the competition Dan commented “I’m so pleased with the way he went. He’s only a young horse and he tries so hard for you every time.    I couldn’t of asked more of him today, he’s a great horse and I feel privileged to have him in my string”.
