CSI5*W – Gothernburg, Sweden
The opening day of the international classes, Thursday, saw Robert Smith and the 9 year-old bay stallion Ilton finish 4th in the 1.50m class. Their time of 56.66 seconds just wasn’t enough to catch the leader, Kevin Staut (FRA), who broke the finish line in 54.92 seconds.  Friday’s 1.50m jump off class saw Robert in the line up again, this time in 8th place with the 12 year-old bay Bavi.  One of eleven clears in the first round they delivered the fastest time of the jump-off to finish in 35.64 seconds however a fence down saw them pick up 4 penalties with Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) taking the title with his time of 36.04 seconds.  In the same class Scott Brash with Hello M’Lady had picked up a time penalty in the first round in what was otherwise a faultless performance.

Saturday evening’s last class of the day was the crowd-pleasing accumulator.  With twelve of the twenty seven starters picking up the maximum 65 points it was the clock that decided the top dozen places.  Riding Cimano E, a 10 year-old grey gelding Robert once again delivered a solid placing, this time in 3rd place with their time of 47.70 seconds, just over a second behind Nicola Philippaerts (BEL) who headed the line up with a time just over a second faster.   This afternoon, Sunday, brought with it the World Cup qualifier and competition was extremely figure with riders all hoping to pick up the lucrative league points on offer.  Achieving just one of the six double clears produced across the competition, Robert and Bavi broke the finish line in 38.60 seconds to finish in 5th place with Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) taking 1st with their time of 36.76 seconds.  Scott Brash and Hello M’Lady were the other Brit contesting the class and it was an unfortunate 4 penalties for them in the first round which saw them knocked out of the running.  Scott still sits as the only British  rider within the top 30 on the Longines World FEI Cup league list in 22nd position following the 13th leg in Gothenburg.

CSI5* - Wellington, Florida
Emily Moffitt with Harriri finished 8th in the £35k 1.45m speed class with her time of 59.50 seconds on Friday before putting in a superb double clear performance on Saturday in the £380k Suncast Grand Prix with Hilfiger van de Olmenhoeve to take 7th.  It was only seven competitors that managed to achieve a double clear with McLain Ward (USA) taking pole position.  Sam Hutton with Happydam was one of the twelve to jump clear in the first round but two fences down in the jump off saw them finish in 12th place.

Sunday afternoon’s 1.50m Grand Prix with a starting field of almost fifty was a testing one with only nine of the field jumping clear in the first round.  The Brits held two of the nine places going forward in to the jump off in the form of Emma Stoker and Townhead Tallulah V and Laura Renwick with Top Dollar VI.   An unlucky four penalties apiece saw them finish in in 7th and 9th place respectively behind Matthieu Billott (FRA) who took the class.   The class preceeding the Grand Prix, a 1.40m Table A saw Chloe Aston notch up a British victory with Amigo T.  Their clear in a time of 52.64 seconds was almost three seconds faster than Nicolas Deseuzes (FRA) whom he knocked into 2nd place with Sammie Jo Coffin and Bellamy II hot on their heels in 3rd place.  The opening class in the same arena, the 1.20m two phase, was dominated by the Brits with Abbie Summers and Quantas taking 1st place with their double clear in a time of 30.94 and Jade Meekings with Pauls Lass and Emily Mason with I.C. taking the following two places.  The 1.30m Table A that took place the other arena brought a win for Sophie Fawcett with Quite Cadiz with their time of 54.28 seconds and it was Sammie Jo Coffin and Simply Splendid that took 2nd along with Stephen Lohoar and Dante who took 3rd.

CSI3* - Vejer de la Frontera, Spain
Harriet Nuttall with Galway Bay Jed won Sundays 1.45m Table A securing the lion share of the €24,600 prize fund.  Their double clear in a time of 68.06 seconds was enough to keep fellow Brit Jake Saywell in 2nd place.  Jake with Havinia van de Roshoeve had also put in an impressive double clear but their time of 69.05 seconds just wasn’t enough to catch Harriet.  Billy Twomey (IRE) took 3rd place with Kimba Flamenco.    The earlier 1.45m Table A with Jump Off had seen Kayleigh Watts with Winde as the highest placed Brit having posted a double clear in a time of 37.17 seconds behind home rider Marina Frutuoso de Melo who stopped the clock just a fraction of a second faster.

CSI3*- Oliva, Spain

Sunday’s opening class, a 1.30m two phase gave Reece Oliver a 6th place finish with his double clear on Eagles Costalot but it was Dan Neilson in the 1.50m table A Grand Prix that kept the union flag flying with his 5th place finish on Newton Nickel.

CSI3* - Mijas, Spain
Sunday’s 1.40m jump-off class saw Anna Power and Chesterfield deliver a brilliant double clear to take 4th place behind Richard Howley (IRL).  One of seventeen double clears, Anna’s time of 22.07 seconds, was just enough to sit high in the line up ahead of Scarlet Charles and Sacree du Rouet who took 9th.   The opening class of the day, the 1.30m speed brought a 5th place for Daisy Davis and Anatar II.

Lara Whiteway and Bellagio delivered a fast double clear to take 2nd place behind Laura Roquet Puignero (ESP) in the 1.30m two phase stopping the clock just over a second behind the leader on Saturday.  Will Funnell and Billy Manjaro took 7th whilst Pippa Funnell and Billy Starlet took 8th.  It was a brilliant top two finish for Great Britain when Anna Power and Edison V along with Louise Whitaker and Cleopatra took 1st and 2nd respectively in the 1.35m whilst Harry Charles blistered his way round the jump off in the 1.40m on Valkiry de Zance to take 2nd place by a fraction of a second behind Doron Kuipers (NED).  Harry’s performance however was enough to pip Will Funnell and Billy Fanta to the post forcing them into a 3rd place finish in a line up which also saw Louise Whitaker and UDget du Rozel finish 6th.

Friday’s opening 1.30m was heavily contested with thirty seven starters and almost half the field going clear.  It was Ben Raistrick and Benevita who took 2nd behind Jules Orsolini (FRA) just ahead of Lara Whiteway and Bellagio II in 4th and Louise Whitaker and Cleopatra in 5th.  The following 1.35m jump off class produced nine double clears with Pippa Funnell and West Falica taking 6th and Max Routledge with Firkov du Rouet taking 9th.  That afternoon also brought a 2nd place finish for Peter Charles and ABC Quantum Cruise in the 1.45m jump off competition which was won by Alain Jufer (SUI) with a clear in 38.27 seconds.  Pippa Funnell and Billy Congo slotted into 4th place in a line up which also saw Harry Charles and Vivaldi du Dom take 7th and John Whitaker with Echo of Light take 8th

Adrian Whiteway and Cash Point stood 2nd in the 1.35m two phase having jumped double clear in a time of 28.89 seconds, just over 300/100’th of a second behind Bruce Goodin (NZL) who took the title on Thursday morning.  It was Max Routledge in the following 1.40m class that was awarded 2nd place having jumped clear in 52.18 seconds behind Doron Kuipers (NED) later that morning whilst Louise Whitaker made her presence felt in the final 1.45m competition of the day with Ruby VIII when she finished 5th in what proved to be an incredibly fast jumping competition in a field of over fifty competitors.
