British Showjumping’s Team NAF Finish 3rd in Opglabbeek Children’s Nations Cup

The British team, riding under the title sponsor of Team NAF, delivered a strong 3rd place finish in the Children’s Nations Cup at Sentower Park in Opglabbeek, Belgium early this morning.

The riders, all aged 14-years or under and making their debut on a British Team, posted some great performances to finish on just 13 penalties overall.  This score, from the field of ten nations competing was enough to secure their place on the podium behind Germany and Denmark who took the first two respective placings.

Angel Tough, aged 13, from Manchester with Callumbus, a 10 year-old bay gelding owned by Emerson Tough took the role of pathfinder.  Posting two extremely respectable rounds to finish on just 4 penalties apiece they looked extremely confident in taking this pivotal role for the team.

Hannah Barker, aged 12, from Northallerton, North Yorkshire with Cartouche II, a 14 year-old bay gelding owned by Ian Barker was next to go for the team.   Matching Angel’s score in the first round when a pole fell, their second round saw them post a superb clear, within the time allowed, to return home on a zero penalty score.

Holly Truelove, aged 13, from Brigg, Lincolnshire with Golly Girl, an 11 year-old chestnut mare owned by Barrie Truelove delivered two brilliant performances for the team.  Leaving all obstacles untouched in each of the rounds, it was extremely disappointing to see them finish just outside the time allowed in the first round to pick up a time penalty.  Their second round, saw them learn from their earlier one to break the finish line well within the time to secure another zero penalty score for the team making their performance an instrumental one in ensuring the teams podium finish.

Anneliese Aitken, aged 14, from Ayrshire with Zorland, a 13 year-old bay gelding owned by Nanette Aitken took the position of anchor.  Their first round saw them finish with an 8 penalty score to become the drop score, however their second round saw them look a lot more consistent with both jumping well to return home on just 4 penalties accrued and a time penalty.

This was a great opening to a day at Sentower Park which sees Children, Junior and Young Rider Nations Cups taking place today and a Pony Nations Cup tomorrow.  The Children will now be preparing themselves for their Grand Prix which takes place tomorrow, Saturday 13th May.
