BRITISH SHOWJUMPING TAKES UP THE GAUNTLET FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE

Wednesday 22 August 2012

British Showjumping has signed up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance, an initiative backed by Minister for Sport and the Olympics Hugh Robertson MP. The Code, aims to enable sport and recreation organisations to aspire to and maintain good governance by providing signatories with practical, simple and realistic advice on improving structures and decision-making processes in their sport or activity.

Iain Graham, Chief Executive for British Showjumping believes that the Code will help them become more effective.

“By signing up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance, British Showjumping hopes to continue its development and to fully equip itself to meet any future challenges that may lie ahead.

“Following its principles will help us build on the proven successes that British Showjumping has had in creating a structured environment for both the human and equine athlete from the 5* training programme, junior academies and coaching programmes through to the national competition structure. In addition to this the success we have had in creating an environment to assist and develop individuals wishing to follow a career either directly or indirectly within the sport. By aligning with the Code it will allow us to continue on the path of good governance”.

Tim Lamb, CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, said: “I’m delighted that British Showjumping has signed up to the Voluntary Code of Good Governance. The Code has been produced by sport for sport and by adhering to its principles the sector can only become stronger. Put simply, organisations with good governance make better decisions and are more effective as a result. Signing up to the Code is an important step on the way.
