British Showjumping Pony Team win the Pony Nations Cup in Moorsele
Friday 11 May 2012
Both the Pony and Children’s Nations Cups took place today in Moorsele, and it was the British Showjumping Pony Team who finished as the eventual winners after two hotly contested rounds of showjumping, in which they competed against another three nations, all vying for that top spot. The Children's team also had a successful outing, finishing in 6th place in their respective Nations Cup competition.
The British Showjumping Pony Team was made up of four riders aged between 12 – 16 years old and the riders were selected following viewing trials that took place recently. The British Showjumping Pony Team was made up of the following rider/pony combinations:
Beth Adams (16) from Halesowen, West Midlands on Julie Adams’ Some Like It Hot
Alex Chitty (15) from Gravesend, Kent on Amy Chitty’s Amilie JR Z
Darby Ward (16) from Alderley Edge, Cheshire on Carolyn Nevinson’s Maradonna
Emily Ward (12) from Neston, Cheshire on Seara Monserrat and Nick Ward’s Dafina K
The first rider over the fences for Great Britain in both rounds of competition was Beth Adams and she produced a fantastic double clear to set Britain well on the way for their win.
Next to go was Darby Ward, who unfortunately picked up 11 faults in the first round, but the combination of Darby and Nevinson’d Maradonna produced a much better second round, collecting only 4 faults for single fence down.
Third in was Alex Chitty, who emulated Beth’s successful double clear, adding nothing to Britain’s final score.
The last rider to go was Emily Ward who had only a single fence down in each round to finish on her final score of 8 faults.
The above rounds meant that at the end of the competition, Darby’s score was the drop score and Great Britain finished the clear winners with only 8 faults, leaving them with 5 faults in hand over runners up Belgium. The final results were as follows:
Results - CSIOP Moorsele, 1st Great Britain – 8 faults
Beth Adams / Some Like it Hot – 0/0
Darby Ward / Maradonna – 11/4
Alex Chitty / Amilie JR Z – 0/0
Emily Ward / Dafina K – 4/4
2nd Belgium – 13 faults
3rd Netherlands – 16 faults
The British Showjumping Childrens Team also contested their respective Nations Cup today and the team consisted of four riders aged between 12 - 14years old on horses. The team was made up of the following rider/horse combinations:
Jordon Marshall (14) from Reading, Berkshire on Louise Sillett’s Micklow Madness
Morgan Carpenter (13) from Holywell, Clwyd on Amanda Carpenter’s Merllyns Maitrix
Grace Boughton-Leigh (13) from Uckfield, East Sussex on Sarah Mendoza’s Usar Hune
Charlotte Ash (13) from Newcastle on Tyne, Tyne on Wear on Rachel Steels Trueleva
Jordon Marshall was first to go, but with an unlucky couple of rounds Jordon's score meant that she finished as the drop score on both occasions. Next in was Morgan Carpenter whom produced a foot perfect first round, but sadly had an unlucky 4 faults in the second round. Third in was Grace Boughton-Leigh, who picked up 4 faults in the first round, but bettered this in the second round by leaving all the poles in place returning with a clear round. Last to jump was Charlotte Ash, who finished on a total of 9 faults from her two rounds.
