Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre

The Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Rounds continued at the weekend with the ninth of the second rounds held at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre in Fareham, Hampshire. The class was held on Saturday 21st July 2012.

Over 40 combinations started the class with the hope of claiming one of the two Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) direct qualifying tickets that were on offer.

From the total of 46 starters, five pony and rider combinations made it into the final jump off in which they all needed to produce a treble clear to be in with a chance of qualifying for the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final. Only one of the combinations went on to achieve this.

The eventual winner of this second round was 15 year-old Romilly Simmons from Taunton, Somerset. Romilly produced the only treble clear of the competition to win the class and secure her place in the Championship Final on board Lahinch Katie, owned by her mother, Emma De Bendern Simmons. The combination rode an immaculate round to clear the jump off course in a time of 49.14 seconds.

Second place and subsequently, the last HOYS direct qualifying place, went to 15-year-old Rosanne Hegarty from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Rosanne came second on Jill Blackwell’s pony, Another Twisted. The combination had a unfortunate fence in the jump off to finish on 4 faults in a time of 44.97 seconds.

Three combinations just missed out on their HOYS qualification, but they did take home the opportunity to compete at the Plevin British Showjumping Scope Festival (26th August – 1st September 2012).
