Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round at Arena UK

The sixth Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round took place this weekend (Sunday 24th June 2012) at Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire.

The Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round was a key part of the Pony Premier Show hosted by Arena UK over the course of the weekend and the class proved popular, attracting a starting field of over 60 rider and pony combinations.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and the total of 65 rider and pony starting combinations were all vying for one of these tickets.

From the starters, 15 combinations produced two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off, but only two of these combinations could produce the all important treble clear, ensuring that they clinched those direct qualifying places for the Championship Final.

The overall winner of this second round was 13-year-old Emily Ward from Neston, Cheshire and she won the class on board Nick Ward’s Prospect Eddie. Emily and Prospect Eddie produced the fastest treble clear of the day over the seven fence jump off course to complete it in a time of 37.68 seconds, cementing the combination’s place in the Championship Final.

The second HOYS direct qualifying place went to 14-year-old Ellie Archdeacon from Whittlesford, Cambridgeshire. Ellie rode Dianne Walker’s pony, Greenacres Bobby, clear over the course in a time of 45.77 seconds.

Just missing out on the HOYS qualifications were the combinations in third to fifth, who all produced impressive treble clears. The combinations did however take home their chance to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival.
