Annabel Shields secures the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round Win at The Scottish Summer Extravaganza

The Scottish Summer Extravaganza saw horses and riders gather at the Royal Highland Showground in Clackmannanshire for the penultimate Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Second Round and it was Annabel Shields who took top spot on the leader board after a thrilling eleven horse jump off.

Fifty-two determined starters came forward to compete for the two qualification places on offer for the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Championship Final, which will be held during this October’s Horse of the Year Show, and this lead to a competitive class unfolding. The first two rounds left eleven talented combinations in contention for a treble clear as the jump off began.

Annabel Shields from Crook, Durham jumped three consistent clear rounds on board Gerona, a 6 year-old chestnut mare owned by Robert Shields. This combination showed their talent as they picked up the pace to cross the finish line on a treble clear in 42.50 seconds.

Claiming second place was Holly Miller from Insch, Aberdeenshire riding her 7 year-old bay gelding Felicio III. This pair gave a strong challenge, posting a treble clear in 43.78 seconds.

The riders and horses that finished in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Connolly’s RED MILLS Senior Newcomers Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
