ALEXANDERS HORSEBOXES BRITISH SHOWJUMPING SCOPE FESTIVAL - FRIDAY

Double winners and defending champions were on top form to claim more titles on day six of this annual extravaganza.

Wellington M made a winning return, taking the Bliss of London National 1.30m title for Kerry Brennan.  Last year, the Quidam De Revel sired 11-year-old won the 1.25m for Kerry’s mum Liane Smith, who temporarily took over as Kerry was expecting her first child.

“There were two long runs in the jump-off, I could just send him on,” said Kerry, who claimed the ride back in February and has since topped the gold league by an amazing 134.5 points.

Millie Allen did the double.  Her sizzling form continued as the newly crowned Under 18 champion also netted the Hopkinson Under 21 title with Senator Cantino II. “I got all the turns and took care to the last vertical,” said Millie, 16, who has ridden this rangy, German 12-year-old since March.“He’s big but so adjustable.”

Locally based Nikki Freeman, who lives just a few miles from Stafford Showground in Rugeley, topped the George Babes Young Riders B and C championship with Lady Maria. This eight-year-old Cartani daughter is the usual ride of Jamie Fry, and the pair took the Hickstead winter novice final at Hickstead in 2013, but Nikki has taken over the reins Jamie is currently sidelined with a broken leg.

Michael Potter gained the Sport Horse Classic Blue Riband championship with Billy Reel, an eight-year-old daughter of Billy Congo bred by the Billy Stud and owned by father and daughter Peter and Emily Machon. “She’s a sensitive but careful jumper and is now jumping 1.35m classes, I’m hoping to jump abroad in October and November to push her forward now,” said Michael.

Defending champion Connie Gill retained her Great Coffee National 138cm title with Dycott Masterman, her HOYS 138cm champion..“I’m so glad we bought this pony,” said a delighted Connie, 11, with an ear-to-ear grin, who followed brother Alex’s jump-off track instructions to the letter. “Masterman’s got a huge stride, I could gallop and take strides out [in distances].”

Sienna Charles, 12, is already current HOYS 128cm and POYS 128cm champion, and this week she added yet another title to her credits – the Commercial Vehicle Linings National 128cm championship with Murkas Flinor Songbird. “She can be quirky, but she’s nice in the stable,” said Sienna.

Second here in the Blue Chip Feeds Pony Newcomers Masters, Alice Donnelly and Roan Boy went one better to claim the Mandy Hall National Pony 1.15m Members Cup “He’s so easy, a gentleman,” said Alice on the Irish-bred 12-year-old bought two and a half years ago.

Danielle Brown and the Irish-bred 10-year-old Moonstruck claimed the Panda Bamboo Flooring Pony Progressive title.
