Monday 15 September 2014

Huddersfield’s William Whitaker boasted a host of top results out at the Spruce Meadows Masters CSIO5* show in Canada this weekend (10 – 14 September 2014). Riding the Elisan AB owned, Upperclass, William posted a win in the Tourmaline Oil Cup 1.60m after producing two clear jumping rounds with a jump off time of 46.01 seconds.  Following up his winning start the UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Development Programme rider went on to place third, again on board the bay gelding Upperclass, in the Suncor Energy Cup 1.50m class.

The West Yorkshire showjumper rounded off his successful week by taking a top five finish in the AKITA Drilling Parcours de Chasse 1.50m class. Generating a clear jumping round on the final day’s speed competition William completed the class in a time of 86.410 seconds to slot into fifth place on his father (Ian) and Mr Calvin McDonald’s 11 year old chestnut Glenavadra Brilliant.

The World Class Development Programme underpins World Class Performance and, together with the Equine Pathway, they comprise the Equestrian World Class Programme, incorporating the three Olympic sports of dressage, eventing, showjumping and the Paralympic sport of para-equestrian dressage.  The Programme has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.
