Laura Renwick Wins €59,000 Class in Madrid
Tuesday 07 May 2013
Laura Renwick from Essex secured the lion share of the prize fund in the closing class of the Madrid leg of the Global Champions Tour with David Berry’s 11 year-old Chestnut gelding Oz de Breve on Sunday (5th May).
In a competition that saw forty four competitors come forward the course was not only big but also technical resulting in only three combinations coming through the finish within the time allowed on zero penalties. It was Great Britain that stood head and shoulders above the field, with both Laura and Scott Brash with Hello Sanctos (owned by Lady Pauline Kirkham and Lord & Lady Harris), the 11 year-old bay gelding with whom he won a Team Gold at the London 2012 Olympics making up two of the only three competitors who managed a clear in the first round.
With nine of the lowest faulters joining Laura, Scott and Athina Onassis de Miranda who had jumped clear it was always going to be a hard fought jump off where time would be as important as leaving the fences up. It was Laura however who yet again, showed the world how formidable a competitor she is against the clock. Putting in a faultless round they came through the finish line in 51.49 seconds, some 4 seconds ahead of Scott who produced the only other clear in the jump off to take 2nd place.
Laura, who has produced Oz de Breve since he first started competing in 2006 has had tremendous success with him on the world stage with solid placings in Doha, Hong Kong, Bordeaux, Zurich, Amsterdam, Basel and Mechelen since the beginning of the year.
