Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds begin at Hargate Arena Show
Tuesday 04 September 2012

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds got off to a flying start this weekend at Hargate Arena Show in Derbyshire (Sunday 2nd September 2012), following a competitive season of first round competitions.
The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds kicked off with the first of the 1.00m National Amateur Second Rounds and the 58 combinations starting the class were all aiming to gain one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets that were on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.
From the 58 starters, 35 combinations made it into the final jump off and with only limited qualifying places available, all of the remaining combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. A total of 20 riders went on to collect a double clear, which meant that the top twelve places were awarded according to the times.
The overall winner of this second round was 25-year-old Samantha Oliver from Lapworth, Solihull and she achieved her win and subsequent Championship Final qualification on board her own 13-year-old bay gelding, Siranimo S. Samantha rode two superb clear rounds, posting a time of 26.69 seconds in the jump off to seal the win.
Second place was filled by 17-year-old Martha Newall from Winsford, Cheshire. Martha rode her own Maddison IV, a 15-year-old bay mare and she achieved her double clear in a time of 28.80 seconds to secure second place.
Samantha also qualified her second ride for the Championship Final. Samantha produced her second double clear in a time of 29.74 seconds aboard her own Rocko VIII, a seven-year-old dark bay gelding. This time left the combination in third position overall.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.
