BIG STAR SHINES IN ANTWERP!

Sunday 29 April 2012

Nick Skelton with Beverley Widdowson’s nine year old KWPN bay stallion Big Star won the Grand Prix in Antwerp this afternoon with almost 10-seconds in hand.

With only three of the forty seven starters going clear in the first round Nick was joined by Pius Schwizer (SUI) and Power Play along with Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Derly Chin De Muze.

Having produced the fastest clear in the first round Nick was last to go in the jump off which saw thirteen combinations come forward, eleven of which were the combinations whom had incurred the least faults in the fastest time.

With Eric Lamaze first of the three clears to jump off , his decision to set a time that couldn’t be beaten was a strategy that unfortunately didn’t pay off as a fence down gave him a finish score of 4-faults.  Opting for a steady clear Pius Schwizer did just that slotting himself into first place albeit temporarily as Nick’s foot-perfect performance after him in a time of almost 10-seconds faster relegated Pius to second position.

Nick Skelton and Big Star have been having an incredibly successful 2012 to date.   They have only recently returned from Florida where their numerous wins and placings saw Great Britain dominate the results sheets.

Team GBR also secured 4th place with Jo Clee and Diablesse de Muze who finished as the fastest competitors on 8faults having incurred 4faults in each of the two rounds.
