Nick Skelton & Untouched 2nd in the 1.60m Ariat Grand Prix, Wellington

Monday 08 February 2016

Nick Skelton with Untouched, the 9 year-old chestnut stallion owned by Neil Moffatt took second place in the 1.60m Grand Prix in Wellington yesterday.

With some of the world’s best riders contesting the $216,000 prize fund on offer it was a high profile class that saw forty combinations come forward.   Five jumped clear in the first round with only three of them going on to produce another clear.

It was Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Check Picobello Z that took eventual first place having stopped the clock on zero penalties in a time of 43.65 seconds.  Nick and Untouched finished clear in 45.52 seconds to take second place with Marilyn Little (USA) and Corona 93 slotting in behind them in third with a time of 46.20 seconds.

Talking afterwards Nick commented “Untouched is relatively new to this level so I am very pleased with him.  He has been building up over the last four weeks and he is getting better all the time. He jumped double clear so I am really pleased”.
